RELEASE: Reconciling Ministries Network Creates Bishop Daniel C. Arichea, Jr. Lecture Series

Establishes Library of Progressive Theological Books in Addition

Retired United Methodist Bishop and RMN Board Member Daniel C. Arichea, Jr. (Bishop Danny) passed away June 1, 2021. He was a bridge-builder and a champion for LGBTQ+ justice in the Philippines and across the United Methodist connection. RMN honors Bishop Danny’s legacy with two initiatives: the establishment of a progressive theological library and the creation of a lecture series.

Bishop Danny served as a professor of biblical studies at Union Theological Seminary (UTS) in the Philippines and was chair of the seminary’s Board of Trustees at the time of his passing. Established in 1907, UTS is the oldest Protestant seminary in the country. In honor of Bishop Danny’s memory, RMN is establishing a collection of progressive biblical studies and theological books in UTS’ library. Those interested in contributing to this collection may select from the book list here () and send donated books to:

RMN also announces the creation of The Bishop Daniel C. Arichea, Jr. Lecture Series: an annual event in which theologians, pastors, or activists can present on topics of interest to progressive theologians and the Reconciling community. The lecture series will begin when RMN raises $15,000 toward the lecture series and will be funded thereafter by ticket sales and financial gifts to the lecture series. A committee selected by RMN board and staff members will decide the lectures series’ format and content.
Bishop Danny inspired and equipped countless justice-seeking United Methodists through his compassion and scholarship. Please consider a book donation or to honor his memory and legacy. You can make a financial gift at bit.ly/bishop-danny.
