Our Interconnectedness
– by RMN Executive Director Matt Berryman-

The numinous web of spirit that connects us each to one another and to the very planet itself reminds me of the deep mystery of life and the ways in which we are caught-up in the undeniable participation mystique of the cosmos.  Notwithstanding the ongoing drumbeat of rampant individualism and self-sufficiency in the halls of power and privilege, the bubbling over of spirit and the appearances of the anima mundi are making it harder and harder to deny both the extent of systematic oppression and the web of our own interconnectedness as human beings, both locally and globally.  What’s more, the Christian witness at its best has proclaimed the communion of the saints as a fundamental spiritual reality within the church and the whole of God’s creation.  The human race is connected, in communion, and caught-up inextricably into a destiny of common human flourishing powered by the God of full and uncompromised well-being for all that lives. We are one.

ChurchQuake to be live-streamed for first time

  • Tumblr
Check out the convocation ChurchQuake Web Portal where you can follow the live-stream, share pictures and videos, read blogs and news, interact on social media, and even learn more about organizing with RMN to make what we are talking about a reality. Convocation isn’t for the people attending, but to equip us all to share a message of love and inclusion for all people. So participate, and help make sure that the Churchquake reaches much, much further than Washinton DC. When you share posts, sermons, pictures, and stories, you are taking an active role in helping the movement forward. As MLK said, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” May it be so.

In case you missed it…

Video of Eric Holder at March on Washington“Today, 50 years later, their March is our march. Our focus has broadened to include women, Latinos, Asian Americans, lesbians, gays, people with disabilities, and countless others across this great country who still yearn for equality, opportunity, and fair treatment… Today we look to the work that remains unfinished… We recognize we are forever bound to one another… The vision of Beloved Community has not yet been realized, but 50 years later it is finally in our grasp.”

Video of Rep. John Lewis at the March on Washington 50th Anniversary “All of us… it doesn’t matter whether we are straight or gay, we are one people, one family, one house… We cannot give up. We cannot give out. We cannot give in.”

The Gay Man Who Organized the March on Washington by Rev. Vicki Flippin: “If something prevents you today from being a Martin or a Malcolm, be a Bayard or an Ella… Every part of a movement for change is crucial and important. Every part is participating in God’s work. Every part will change you just a little and will change the world just a little too.”

Different Struggle, Same Fight by Rev. Gil Caldwell: “ It was Marilyn; white, lesbian, separated from the United Methodist Church because it could not affirm her because of her sexual orientation, that caused me to make Martin Luther King’s words; “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”, become almost a mantra for me as I have sought to explore the relationship between racism and heterosexism.”
