Copy of LGBTQ Justice Leaders
August 29 @ 1:00 pm - August 30 @ 2:00 pm
Dear LGBTQ justice caucus leaders, Reconciling pastors engaged in Annual Conference efforts, LGBTQ General Conference 2020 delegates, and other Reconciling movement leaders:
As we near the September deadline for legislation to the General Conference and the January 1 date for implementation of the Traditionalist Plan, it is important that we gather as LGBTQ justice leaders.
We will gather in Chicago from 1:00 p.m. August 29 – 3:00 p.m. August 30. LGBTQ justice caucus leaders will help to plan the agenda and lead parts of the discussion.
During this gathering, we want to:
Ground ourselves in what we have in common, while recognizing our different perspectives, as we look at the potential for the birth of one or more inclusive expressions of Methodism inside and/or outside the current UMC
Debrief the various meetings held after GC2019 and the outcome of 2019 annual conferences
Determine our vision for what a justice-oriented denomination (Methodist faith space) looks like and pathways to achieving it
We are not trying to gain agreement on a single path forward for LGBTQ people and allies. Our goal is to understand each other, open lines of communications, share the information that we have at this point, and use the power of our collective visioning to inform the work we all do.
For those unable to travel that weekend, we plan to livestream at least some of the discussion.
